Frequently asked questions.

Can I rent gear for one person?

Yes, you can. Our services are most economical for groups of two or more, but we can rent gear for a single person.

Do you lead or guide trips?

No, we don’t. Our goal is to enable you to camp with your friends and family. We occasionally host group campouts, but we don’t guide or lead. If you’re looking for guided trips we can put you in touch with reputable, NPS accredited organizations.

What if I’ve never camped before?

You’ll do great! We’re helped countless people plan for their first camping trip and we are here to support you. Want to know about bathrooms? Drinking water? What to do if you see a bear? How to pitch a tent? We’re here to walk you through all of it.

What gear is included?

We have two different services that include gear.

Standard gear rentals come with all the major items you’ll need, including a tent, sleep system, chairs, stove, and basic cookware. You’ll want to augment this gear with detailed items.

Our full trip service includes a comprehensive gear kit that is carefully tailored to your needs and includes detailed items such as s’mores kits, cooking oil, campsuds soap, coffee and walkie talkies. These kits are designed to be exhaustive so that you only need to pack personal items such as clothing and toiletries. Check out an example gear kit.

What parks and areas do you offer trip planning services for?

We can help you plan your trip to Yosemite National Park, Sequoia / Kings Canyon National Park, Joshua Tree National Park, Death Valley National Park, Pinnacles National Park, Channel Islands National Park, Angeles National Forest, Ventura county beaches, San Jacinto State Park, San Bernardino National Forest, Los Padres National Forest and Anza-Borrego State Park.

Will you deliver and pickup gear?

Yes! We offer free pickup and drop-off at Eagle Rock Recreational Center. We will deliver and pickup in most parts of LA County for a fee. Just ask if we can deliver to your area.

Do you provide meals?

Meals are not a part of our services, but we provide resources on our favorite camp recipes and snacks for inspiration.

If you are interested in low or no-prep gourmet camp meals we have a partner who can provide those as an add-on.

How do you find campsites at popular parks like Yosemite and Joshua Tree?

A lot of experience and constant monitoring. We pay close attention to the campsite release dates; we know which campgrounds tend to have availability. In some areas, there are incredible, but little-known National Forest sites that we adore. We will recommend these spots if they make sense for your trip.

We cannot always find something for you. We only charge if we are successful.

How do your services compare to REI and other rental companies

We’re a small, local business with a focus on concierge services. Our services are thoughtful and thorough. We win when you feel informed and equipped to go camping.

Most rental companies only offer very basic gear - tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads and chairs. You’re still left having to buy or borrow a lot of items (e.g. mess kits, tarps, fuel, headlamps) if you want a smooth trip. Many rental companies also ship gear by mail, which has a high carbon footprint.

None of the rental companies provide concierge services to help with reservations, trip planning or basic camping support.

What if I damage or lose gear?

Please treat our gear as if it were your own. That said, things happen when you’re out in the field, which is why we offer affordable gear insurance that provide coverage for any loss and damage.
